Unable to send SMS messages to ‘short’ or premium numbers: Are you unable to send messages to our short number, 69500? We wanted to share a problem, and solution, many O2 [and other network users] have struggled with for some time. We couldn’t easily find answers, so thought we’d post a blog on the issue which we hope you find helpful. This blog is aimed at anyone who may be somewhat confused by short numbers in general and perhaps don’t know how to change the permissions on their mobile phone to enable or disable short number messaging.
Unable to send SMS messages to ‘short’ or premium numbers?
The issue: You’ve discovered you can’t send SMS (text) messages to short numbers (short numbers or shortcodes are numbers that only have five digits – unlike a mobile number that has 11 digits. Our short number, for instance, is 69500).
The scenario: You have a Samsung S4 phone on a Pay Monthly credit account with the O2 network.
Troubleshooting: You have gone through the usual network settings, message centre settings, etc. Your account did have a premium service block on it which customer services lifted – but all to no avail.
It turns out that the issue has nothing to do with your network operator at all!
Solution: There is a setting on the S4 which can block premium charge messages. By default, you are prompted about the potential charge… you can select to block short messages. You might not recall doing it, but if it happens, chances are that you have altered the permissions on your handset at some point in the past and simply forgotten about it.
To change these settings:
1. Press the Menu key from the home screen.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select the More tab at the top right corner of your screen.
4. Select the Application Manager.
5. Slide the screen to the All section.
6. Select Messages.
7. Under the Permissions section, you will find a drop-down menu with 3 options for Sending Premium SMS (this isn’t very obvious but is in the middle of the permissions text)
Ask – Never Allow – Always Allow
8. Select the desired option (Ask is the default).
Anyone experiencing a similar issue to that described above, and performing a search, will hopefully come across this article 🙂

Age-restricted content bar (Vodafone)
What is ‘age-restricted content bar’?
It’s a setting Vodafone provide as standard on their network to protect those under the age of 18 from accessing sites like XXX Sex Contacts – on mobile devices.
This content bar works on the Vodafone mobile network only. So if your device is connected to the internet over Wi-Fi, adult content may still be available – you can manage this through your broadband provider.
How to manage the bar?
You can manage the bar through “My Vodafone” on the Vodafone website. If you’re a Pay monthly customer, you can also manage it in the My Vodafone app.
If you have Vodafone Secure Net you can also manage the bar in your content settings in the Vodafone Secure Net App or the Vodafone Secure Net Portal
For Vodafone Home Broadband, you need to manage your content settings through broadband content controls
