‘Sex fixated policeman, 51, and his colleagues ‘used a hi-tech camera on board the force helicopter to record sordid footage of his swinger friends having sex and women sunbathing’

  • Adrian Pogmore, 51, used his air observer role to film people from force helicopter
  • Accused of filming naked people and couples having sex from force helicopter
  • One suspected incident saw him film a mother sunbathing naked in her back garden with her bikini-clad teenage daughters and fully-clothed eight-year-old
  • Pogmore has already admitted four charges of misconduct in a public office
  • Two PCs and two pilots from South Yorkshire Police also accused of misconduct

A ‘sex obsessed’ police officer used a hi-tech camera on board a police helicopter to record seedy footage of his swinger friends having sex in their garden, a court heard today.

Adrian Pogmore, 51, formerly of South Yorkshire Police before he was dismissed, used his position as an air observer to film his swinging friends having an eight minute sex session on their patio.

Serving South Yorkshire officers Matthew Lucas, 42, and Lee Walls, 47, retired South Yorkshire Police pilot Malcolm Reeves, 64, and former South Yorkshire pilot Matthew Loosemore, 45, are currently on trial accused of being part of Pogmore’s filming set ups.

They all deny misconduct relating to watching and filming naked people without their consent and observing and recording people performing sexual acts.

Council for the prosecution (Richard Wright, QC), told the jury: ‘On three separate occasions they filmed a couple having sexual intercourse in their own garden.

Richard Wright stated in court that there was ‘no legitimate reason’ for the officers to film the couple and ‘no basis’ for flying over people’s homes, selecting them as targets and filming them.

While flying overhead Pogmore decided to zoom in on a naked couple sat outside their caravan.

‘Not only is there an invasion of privacy, but there are wider issues at stake, both in terms of the waste of a valuable police resources and also in terms of confidence that the public expects the police helicopter to be used appropriately and for good reason.

‘Not to be used for filming citizens in a state of nakedness for the amusement of the crew.’

All four females were sat in a line on reclined sun loungers and bright pink and orange towels lay on the grass.

The middle-aged mother-of-three was sat with her legs arched together with her hands on her head.

The prosecutor added: ‘The camera has a powerful zoom function and the operator used that to zoom in on the naked body of the woman and in particular her genitalia.’

Graphic content was also played to the jury when the crew spotted the swinging couple having sexual intercourse in their garden in South Yorkshire.

The footage used as evidence in the trial was found in a draw belonging to Pogmore in his desk at a police station.

Walls, of Sheffield, denies one count, Loosemore, of Doncaster, denies one count, Reeves denies one count and Lucas, of Sheffield, denies three counts of misconduct relating to watching and filming naked people without their consent and observing and recording people performing sexual acts.

Mr Wright said the final incident – again featuring people sunbathing naked – was on July 22 2012, when the aircraft was piloted by Reeves, with Lucas and Pogmore as observers.

The woman who was spotted sunbathing naked in her back garden said she felt ‘sickened’ after being told she had been spied on by police officers, a court heard.

‘This is an utter invasion of my privacy and I am embarrassed with what I have seen on the footage and my privacy has been interfered with’

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: ‘This makes me feel sick that this took place and my family were spied on.

‘I am 100 per cent sure it is me in the footage. I am certain that it is me because I notice my hair and body shape and at one point you can see my face.’

In the footage filmed in 2007, the woman seems to look up at the camera as her eight-year-old daughter runs around the garden.

She added: ‘I do not know any police officers who work with South Yorkshire Police or have never requested to observe my home at anytime working in the force.’

A 53-year-old woman, who was also caught on camera by Pogmore sunbathing in her garden, said: ‘This is an utter invasion of my privacy and I am embarrassed with what I have seen on the footage and my privacy has been interfered with.

‘When I sunbathe I only believe that my husband is the one who can see me – no one else.’

The court heard defendant Walls had claimed he did not look at the screen for a long period of time due to the fact he suffered from migraines and would usually turned the monitor off.

Co-accused Loosemore, who transferred to the National Police Air service in 2013, claimed that he was concentrating on piloting the aircraft and would only look at the monitors ‘for a couple of seconds’.

However, Mr Wright dismissed that on behalf of the Crown who said the crew ‘needs to work together to fly the helicopter – and it was working together when filming these incidents’.

The jury were told the couple who were filmed by Pogmore having sex offered no evidence to the CPS.

The trial, which started today, is expected to last three weeks.

PC suspended after allegations he filmed people as they had sex – from a HELICOPTER

Adrian Pogmore is accused of spying on couples at Sheffield dogging spots, it has been reported.

Adrian Pogmore, 48, is accused of spying on couples at Sheffield dogging spots, The Sun has reported.

The PC, based in Operational Support Services with South Yorkshire Police, was suspended from his post on Friday, December 5 while the allegation was investigated.

The incident is believed to have taken place in 2008, according to the police.

A gross misconduct investigation was carried out by the force’s Professional Standards Department and found there is a case to answer.

The officer, reportedly a father of two, will appear before a special case hearing in February.

The helicopter was being used at the time of the alleged incident for a legitimate policing purpose and was being used to assist with operational policing, the force said in a lengthy statement.

The officer was interviewed around an alleged breach of standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct. A search was carried out at the officer’s address, with his consent, and no disc has been recovered.

A source told The Sun: “He’s accused of looking at dogging sites while the chopper was meant to be on patrol.”

The paper claims that the alleged incident was reported to authorities by his wife Lesley, from who he has reportedly split.

If found guilty he could be sacked for gross misconduct and potentially face charges for voyeurism.

The officer and his wife refused to comment when approached, The Sun added.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “An officer has been suspended following an allegation relating to unauthorised use of force visual recording equipment.

“This pilot is employed by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and his involvement has been investigated and no misconduct was identified. This report will be referred to NPAS for their consideration.”
